A North East truck and van retailer has been nominated for the prestigious Mercedes-Benz Truck Sales Team of the Year award for the second year in succession, as it continues to defy the tough financial conditions.
Bell Truck and Van, which has six branches in the region, has also just been accredited with the Investors in People standard, which recognises commitment to staff support and development.
Last year, the Company’s group sales manager Alan Dale outperformed 20 other sales managers to become Mercedes-Benz Truck Sales Manager of the Year 2010, while his department was also named Top Truck Sales Team 2010.
This year, group accountant Lee Davison has been nominated as a finalist for the Commercial Vehicle Finance Team of the Year award, which recognises his outstanding performance in 2011.
The group now believes that winning further titles this year could act as a catalyst for ongoing growth at the firm, which has continued to outperform businesses in areas less affected by public sector redundancies and cutbacks on infrastructure spending.
Mr Dale said: “It was a tough year across our business with recession hitting the North East extremely hard and with other dealers having had the Olympics and LEZ compliance to aid their business. We were not confident that we would even be nominated after winning this award last year.
“Being nominated again demonstrates the team spirit and co-operation that exists within the sales department from all parts of our business, including driver training, finance, admin, service and parts and, of course, the sales team.”
Managing director Trevor Simmons added: “We have a detailed plan for achievement, covering 40 areas of the business. Each area has a quarterly stepped target, and these nominations underpin the progress and improve the confidence of the team.
“Following our positive reassessment for Investors in People, we are confident that the whole team has bought into our strategy, and ultimately this helps secure both the quality of our service and their own jobs in a very difficult trading environment.”
The Mercedes-Benz award winners will be announced at the Truck Sales Academy awards dinner next month at the Grove hotel in London.
Bell Truck and Van has branches across the Tyne-Tees region, including in Longbenton, Newcastle, in Spennymoor, on Wearside, and in Stockton, on Teesside.
