How can awareness days help your social media marketing?


One of the most important things to bear in mind when you are creating social media content, whatever platform it will be used on, is to keep it relevant and interesting. No one wants to read a stream of dull sales messages or keep seeing the same things over and over.

There are various tactics you can use, such as incorporating design and animation, posting quotes from well-known people in your industry, and sharing blog content. Another is to take advantage of awareness days.

There seems to be an awareness day for pretty much everything and many of them will be completely irrelevant to you as a business, but you will also find many that complement what you do or your key messages perfectly. You will also find a host of more generic days such as World Quality Day on November 14th, which can be a part of any business’ content plan.

Research your dates carefully (check whether it is UK or US-specific as this is a common pitfall!), and check for underlying meaning, too. Some days can be a little controversial, such as World Water Day on March 22nd which focuses on raising awareness of the number of people across the world who are forced to drink contaminated water – not how drinking water is good for you.

It’s a great idea to create a branded template to share on social media – people will see this in their feed and instantly realise that it is your brand; you’ve spent time and budget building your identity so it’s important to make the most of every opportunity to build on this. It only needs to be simple! If you don’t have a designer in-house, you can do this quite easily using a free tool such as Canva.

Now all you need to do is share your template on social media.

Each awareness day usually has its own hashtag, which you can include within your content to help make it more searchable on social media and amplify your message. This can make your message available to an even wider audience, and presents great opportunities for engagement too.
