Blackwell Grange Hotel

The Blackwell Grange Hotel is a stunning 17th century mansion which enjoys an enviable setting in the beautiful County Durham countryside. Nestled in wooded parkland on the outskirts of Darlington, and located between the North Yorkshire Moors and the Pennines, Blackwell Grange provides a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Harvey & Hugo began working with Blackwell Grange in December 2017, to manage the PR and social media for the first phase of its multi-million-pound, five-year remodelling and refurbishment project. The initial stage focused on the public areas of the hotel, including the main reception and lounge, three function suites and three bars; bringing new life to the historic areas in a more contemporary house style.

Our work included writing and distributing two press releases to the North East press, social media for Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and design work; creating and distributing an e-newsletter, and creating an invitation for a launch.

The first of our two press releases for Blackwell Grange was to announce that the initial phase of the multi-million-pound refurbishment had begun. It promoted the key elements of the initial works and stated the architects and designers behind the project. We distributed this to the North East press and received 15 pieces of coverage:



The second press release was distributed to announce that the refurbishment project was well underway, that the brand-new Bruhenny Suite was completed and ready to host weddings, and that the Blackwell Lounge and Main Reception had also been completed. The release received 14 pieces of coverage:


Social Media:

We have supported many of Blackwell Grange’s objectives through the use of its social media accounts; Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. We chose to focus on these platforms as they offer greater accessibility to, and opportunities to interact and connect with, Blackwell Grange’s target market. They also allow the beautiful imagery from the refurbishment to be shared to a wider audience.

Our content has included sharing promotions, refurbishment updates, ‘meet the team’ profiles, and encouraging the sharing of nostalgic images of the hotel from past events. We also created designs including quotes from the hotel team and descriptions of the venue.


We supported the campaign with a MailChimp newsletter which shared the hotel’s news and upcoming promotions, designed and distributed by Harvey & Hugo. We also created an invitation to the launch of the Bruhenny Suite, and invited media contacts to the event.
