Wag & Company

Launched in 2016, Wag & Company operates across the whole of the North East region bringing friendship and the company of a dog to older people in their own homes – unique to Wag & Company – or in care or medical establishments.

The charity now has 247 professionally assessed volunteers who, with their special dogs, are making people smile across the North East; another 56 are currently going through the charity’s assessments processes. To date, over 35,000 friend visits have been made and over 1,800 vulnerable North East people are benefiting.

Harvey & Hugo worked with Wag & Company in 2018 as a supporting partner, providing PR and marketing services to help raise awareness of the charity and share its successes.

To develop and implement a marketing strategy which will raise Wag & Company’s profile across the North East, promoting its excellent work and celebrating its successes. There were five main objectives outlined:

  1. Communicate with an impactful and consistent message to all stakeholders
    • Measured by awareness survey done at outset and end
  2. Inform current volunteers
    • Measured by satisfaction survey done at outset and end
  3. Attract new volunteers
    • Measured by visits to the volunteer registration page and phone/email enquiries
  4. Reach new dog lovers
    • Measured by visits to the ‘ask us to visit’ page and phone/email enquiries
  5. Drive registrations for “Walk For Wag” (including corporate walk)
    • Measured by visits to the registration web page and registrations

The Week – Charity of the week feature

Included in the July 21st issue of national magazine, The Week.

Harvey & Hugo sponsored the Wag Event at The Baltic in Gateshead, in May 2018. The event brought all the charity’s volunteers together for the first time; speakers delivered presentations about the issues close to Wag & Company’s heart such as the effect of loneliness on frailty, and how to support people living with dementia.

We issued pre and post-event press releases to promote the event, and designed graphics for use on Harvey & Hugo’s social media profiles:

We also organised biscuits that were co-branded:

On the day, we attended the event and Pack Leader, Charlotte delivered a presentation on why she wanted to support Wag & Company. We captured video interviews with volunteers about why they want to support the charity and posted live on social media throughout the event.

The event was well attended and volunteer feedback was that they found it useful. It also gave volunteers the opportunity to become Dementia Friends, meaning that they are better equipped to support people living with dementia.

Social media

Harvey & Hugo carried out social media engagement for Wag & Company, to aid in building the charity’s following. It also provided specific extra support for certain campaigns, such as promotion of the 2018 ‘Walk for Wag’, and live social media at the 2018 ‘Wag Event’.

The main accounts managed by Harvey & Hugo, were the charity’s Instagram and Twitter profiles. Wag & Company also had the assistance of a volunteer who posted content across the charity’s social media accounts.

From February to November 2018, we successfully grew Wag & Company’s social media followers and achieved the following results:

Harvey & Hugo worked on numerous design pieces including infographics, quote and awareness day templates, and branded Facebook banners. We also designed banners and created videos for the charity to use at events.

We also created an infographic which showed income versus outgoings for the charity for its 2017-18 financial year.

Fundraising activity

We nominated Wag & Company as the charity to benefit from fundraising at the IGEM Winter ball 2018. The ball raised over £2,500 to support Wag & Company’s work.

Two members of The Pack took part in the Walk for Wag in September, to support the event. They posted on Wag & Company’s social media accounts and also from Harvey & Hugo accounts, live from the event.

Harvey & Hugo loved working with Wag & Company as its charity of the year for 2018. The charity’s values are closely aligned with those of the company and the whole Pack enjoyed working with and supporting such a worthy cause.

It has been a pleasure to see volunteers and the number of lives touched increase over the last 12 months, and to contribute towards raising awareness of Wag & Company.
