The firm, which was launched in 2007 and has since opened six branches across the North, has enlisted Laurence Daniels to its Thirsk office as a personal injury (PI) and clinical negligence consultant solicitor.
Daniels has 20 years of experience as a lawyer and previously ran his own practice, Daniels & Company, from 2005 to 2010, before selling it to Coles.
Since then he has been working as a consultant solicitor for Richardson & Co, while he also spent 11 years earlier in his career as head of PI at Forster-Dean Solicitors in the North West.
His appointment comes at a time when Coles is enjoying a period of rapid growth and the business is expecting to further increase its headcount and open a new office within the North East next year.
Peter Gibson, managing director and principal solicitor at Coles, said: “I am delighted that Laurence has chosen to return to us following the sale of his business to Coles in York in 2010.
“Laurence is an excellent lawyer and delivers first class service to clients. As his range of expertise includes hospital, doctor and dentist negligence, we are able to now add medical negligence to our continually growing range of services from our network of six offices”.
Laurence Daniels said: “I have been thoroughly impressed with the firm’s expansion in recent years, its drive for absolute professionalism and quality of service to the clients, the quality of its staff, and Peter’s sound business decisions. I know the company has a very bright future indeed and I am delighted to be on board.
“PI legislation has been subject to dramatic changes made by the government this year and PI claimants have been penalised as a result, in my view. At Coles, we now aim to minimise the impact of the changes to clients and to forge ahead as a legal services market leader in our area and I am very much looking forward to being a part of that.”
Although Coles Solicitors has been trading in its current form for six years, the Coles brand name has been in existence within the legal sector since 1965.
The group, which has offices in Northallerton, York, Thirsk, Settle, Yarm and Guisborough, has grown largely through acquisition and can trace its roots back over 200 years.
