The children’s comic will be performing in Darlington this weekend as part of the Darlington Comedy Festival.
The show, which consists of stand-up performances and a comedy workshop, is aimed at children aged six years old and over, although it also contains subtle adult humour to keep the whole family entertained.
Tiernan will also be joined on stage by two of the most in-demand comedians on the UK circuit – Martin Mor and Nick Doody.
He said “I’m really looking forward to hosting the Comedy Club 4 Kids here in Darlington.
“I’ve run this show up and down the country, and I find that kids are an incredible audience – they’re so enthusiastic and fun.
“One thing about comedy for kids is that it’s straightforward and not patronising. You can speak to kids like any other audience and get them involved. I want them to be able to experience jokes that are constructed especially for them, as opposed to the usual slapstick comedy they get on TV.
“It’s lovely to be bringing something to the afternoon that the whole family can enjoy as well, rather than just the late night stand-ups full of swearing and adult content.”
Tiernan also performs various gigs for the Darlington Comedy Festival’s host Hilarity Bites. Company owner Neil Jollie said: “It’s great to have Tiernan back here in Darlington to run the Comedy Club 4 Kids.
“The show is fantastic in that it allows children to view stand-up comedy that’s been created particularly for them, and we’re hoping that many families will come along and experience an enjoyable afternoon together.”
Tickets for the Comedy Club 4 Kids cost £8 for adults and £5 for under-16s. Doors open at 1.30pm on Saturday, July 7 for a 2pm start.
