Facebook is making a few changes to News Feed in order to create the right mix of content.
By balancing posts from different sources, according to what each user is most interested in, Facebook hopes to show you the content that most matters to you:
1) Firstly, previous rules prevented you from seeing multiple posts from the same source in a row. Now this rule is being relaxed for when you run out of content but wish to spend more time in News Feed
2) The second update aims to ensure you don’t miss out on important updates from friends you are most interested in, by ensuring their posted content is higher up in News Feed.
3) Lastly, stories about friends liking or commentating on a post will now appear lower down in News Feed or not at all, so you are more likely to see content you are directly invested in from friends or liked pages.
Finding the right balance of content will vary greatly from user to user, but there is a chance post reach and referral traffic may decline. However, Facebook has stated that as long as you post engaging and meaningful content you will reach your intended audience.
With these changes comes the even greater need to post quality content (not that you shouldn’t be already). After all, if you were to stand up and start speaking in a busy street, people would only stop and listen if they were interested in what you have to say (or if they were giving out freebies – but you get the idea).
