Mike Turner, owner of Mike Turner Plaques and Painting, was awarded the prize after entering a competition run by Paddock Farm Nursery and Water Gardens, where traders from across the North East battled it out to win the top prize.
Mike was selected as the winning trader for his unique, hand-painted house and garden plaques.
He makes these plaques with different kinds of wood which are painted in watercolour and lacquered using a French yacht varnish for years of durability.
While Mike specialises in painting birds and animals on his plaques, he can produce any design on request, including house numbers, names and images from photos of a much-loved pet.
As well as having all of his products in Paddock Farm’s shop, Mike will also benefit from online promotion through the Company’s website as well as its marketing campaigns.
James Lane, marketing manager at Paddock Farm, said: “We chose Mike as our winner because we think his plaques offer something a bit different and will be a lovely addition to our product range.
“We’re really looking forward to developing our relationship with Mike and are thrilled to be helping him to market his work.”
Mike said: “I am very happy to have won Paddock Farm’s competition. I have always painted as a hobby, but since my recent redundancy I have been looking for ways to turn this into a business.
“I use Paddock Farm frequently, and because the staff members are friendly and helpful, and a lot of people shop there, this can only be good news for my fledgling business. I’m looking forward to working with the staff and management in this new venture. Hopefully as people see my work I might even be able to expand.”
