Content is king!

Content marketing is a bit of a buzz word at the moment within the PR industry, but do you know what it actually means and how it could benefit your organisation?

Let’s start with a definition: Content marketing involves the creation and sharing of media and publishing content in order to acquire customers.

This information can be presented in a variety of media, including, news, video, white papers, ebooks, infographics, case studies, how-to guides, Q&A’s and photos….pretty much anything! In fact this blog is content marketing for us.

As an affordable marketing channel for small businesses, everyone is jumping on the content marketing bandwagon and this has led to a great deal of competition. We’ve listed just a few tips below to help you get your content noticed:

 Quality

This is the most important part. Many people simply write content purely for Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). Although this is still a valuable marketing strategy, there’s a clue in the name ‘content’ marketing – It’s all about the content. High quality, valuable content is more likely to be shared and published, increasing brand awareness.

 Answer questions

A lot of our clients have been asking about content marketing, therefore it seemed obvious to write a blog about it. Instead of picking topics that you think would be interesting ask your target audience and write helpful content.

 Frequency

Consistency is key with content marketing. It’s important to have a content marketing strategy to plan regular and varied content.

 It’s a team effort

Everyone within your team has different areas of expertise. To ensure content is varied, ask your whole team to contribute. At Harvey & Hugo, we share blogging responsibilities and all chip in with social media responsibilities.

It doesn’t have to be writing

Remember content is not just writing. It could be as simple as uploading images to your Instagram account…They say a picture is worth a thousand words after all.

 Promote your content

It’s important to promote your content where your customers are likely to see it. If your customers follow you on twitter, tweet about it. If they prefer emails, send out an e-newsletter.
