With only a few months left until the Great North Run, training for Pack members Charlotte, Jenn and Natalie is in full swing. In this blog Natalie tells us about her progress and why she is proud to be raising money for local charity, High Tide Foundation.
I began training in April and two months later I’m feeling the benefits of regular exercise. I certainly wasn’t a runner before I started training for the Great North Run but now I’ve learned how to breathe properly while running (it’s actually quite important!) I’m starting to enjoy it.
Jenn and I have been ‘parkrunning’ and also joined the Darlington ‘Social Running Group’, which is hosted by Up & Running and sees runners of all abilities and ages meet every Monday evening to enjoy a jog around the town.
I faced my first 10k race a few weeks ago and it was an incredible experience. Jenn (who had already run a 10k) was by my side and although I was very nervous I’m thrilled to say we both had an amazing race. I finished in 1:10:01 and Jenn was very proud of her time of 1:18:12, we were so delighted with our results we even got our medals engraved.
It’s been a crazy time but I’m thoroughly enjoying the training, even though it doesn’t feel great while I’m doing it. Not only is the training helping me to prepare my body for the half marathon but I’ve discovered lots of other benefits too; I have more energy, my skin is vibrant and not to mention I’m burning calories (so in theory, I can eat more sweets and biscuits in the office).
Knowing I’m helping to raise money for a brilliant local charity is helping me power through the training. I’m privileged to be representing High Tide and also to be joining thousands of other people who will also be running for fantastic causes.
