How to grow your followers on Twitter

This month our PR executive Sarah took part in the latest Twitter Academy webinar showing you how to grow your followers on Twitter.blog, Twitter, social media, Darlington, Harvey & Hugo

Statistics demonstrate that 72% of followers are more likely to buy from an SME they follow on Twitter, which proves how imperative Twitter can be when building and growing your business.

The webinar, hosted by Brian Lavery, covered creative ways to grow your follower base and how to maximise the performance of promoted accounts.

By following these simple steps, you will inevitably gain more followers on Twitter which can only benefit your business.

Follow others

It’s important to follow other users when building your base.  Most Twitter users will follow new followers back, and it’s a great way to get up and running when establishing your base.

Promote your @handle everywhere

Your twitter handle should be promoted everywhere on your products, business cards, merchandise and emails. Twitter is the first point of contact for most businesses and many customers use the social media tool to directly contact the business. This will greatly help attract followers and potential customers.

Stay on top of your industry, conversations and trends. The more you take part in debates surrounding your trade, the more you will attract suitable followers who will engage back. Engagement is key in making your new followers want to stay.

Install the follow button to your website

Twitter brands that have a follow button on their website see average increases in replies, retweets and favourites. By integrating the follow button onto your homepage, people can easily click through to your Twitter straight from the site.

Tweet sharable content

Tweets that contain links receive 86% higher retweet rates and tweets with image links have 200% the engagement rate than tweets without. So, sharing interesting and good quality articles, pictures and videos is a sure way to attract followers!

Use Promoted accounts

By promoting your account you’re putting your business in front of more people. They can appear in users’ timelines and search results and you can do this by targeting people’s interests and usernames to ensure you’re attracting the relevant follower base.

After taking these simple steps, you’ll notice more your Twitter users will be following and interacting with your account. If you need any extra help in managing your social media, please call us on 01325 486666.
