Five years after its launch, one of the world’s most loved and most popular social media platforms has freshened up its look with a new logo.
Many of Instagram’s 400 million users took to the platform to share their thoughts on the updated icon and app design, which represents how “vibrant and diverse your storytelling has become” according to the Company.
Instagram started the redesign a year ago, which also includes even more filters to use on photos and also sees updated icons for the platforms creative apps: Layout, Boomerang and Hyperlapse.
The new icon features a simpler camera over a rainbow of colours and was inspired by the My Instagram Logo project, started by Paulo del Valle three years ago and which saw thousands of creators remix the icon in creative ways. Paulo used more than 400 flowers to make his remix of the apps new look, which showed a camera made out of white flowers over a multicolour bed of flowers.
As well as changing the logo, changes to the layout of the app have been made, with the aim of putting more focus on users’ photos and videos, without changing how the app is navigated.
Less than 24 hours after the launch, opinions on Instagram’s new look are still divided, but at H&H we think it’s great and love how fresh it looks.
