French writer Antoine de Saint-Exupéry once said: “A goal without a plan is just a wish.” And here at Harvey & Hugo we couldn’t agree more.
In November we delivered our most popular Hugoversity seminar of the year, ‘How to plan your 2019 PR and marketing strategy’, with four key messages.
Establish where you are
As the saying goes sometimes to go forwards you have to take a step back. Firstly, Did you set KPIs in 2018? What activity worked well, and what didn’t? Secondly, and arguably most importantly, think about how you define success, where you want to be – and be realistic. A content audit is a great foundation for any strategy to ensure you’re making the most of your content. Repetition
Think about where you want to be
Dig a little deeper into the heart of your company and think about the ‘why’. Why do you do what you do? What motivates you? What are your company’s core values? Once you’ve established this, your PR and marketing strategy will become much clearer.
How do you plan on getting there?
Now you’ve set your goals, how do you plan on achieving them? Have you considered who you’re communicating to? Have you conducted media research? Have you broken your goals down into smaller targets to track regular activity? Don’t neglect the journey, you can’t get to the destination without it!
Prepare, plan and prepare some more
While PR and marketing can often be timely and topical, having a solid quarterly or yearly plan with key messages and campaigns can ensure you’re not missing a trick or regurgitating old, less effective content.
To help you prepare your 2019 PR and marketing strategy, we’ve created a fabulous wall planner packed with useful awareness days to keep your content fresh and of course, the top dogs themselves.
