The greatly anticipated social event Ladies’ Day was a sparkling success on Saturday 20th June at Redcar Racecourse.
Nearly 6,000 people from across the region came together to enjoy an incredible day of glitz and glamour at the races, in collaboration with Teesside Hospice.
Alongside the seven races there were the now traditional competitions for ‘Best Dressed Lady’ and ‘Best Hat’.
Emma Keay won ‘Best Dressed Lady’ which included a valuable Michael Kors jewellery set from Market Cross Jewellery and beautiful bouquet of flowers from Rae & Rose as part of the prize.
Emma, who wore the winning dress from ASOS, is from Ingleby Barwick. She was overwhelmed to win the top prize and said: “I was not expecting this at all, I’m in shock! Me and a bunch of other mums get together every year and dress up to have a fun day out. This has really topped it off, thank you so much!”
Emma has been invited to represent Redcar in the Go Racing In Yorkshire Best Dressed Lady In Yorkshire Grand Final at Doncaster Racecourse on Saturday 24th October.
In second place for ‘Best Dressed Lady’ was Judith Beckett from Chesterfield who designed her unique dress herself. Claire Bennett, from Middlesbrough came third, her colourful dress was from H&M. They both enjoyed fabulous prizes from local retailers Market Cross Jewellers and Orange Kerr Hair & Beauty.

Redcar Racecourse’s general manager, Amy Fair said: “We’re thrilled to be celebrating another successful race day. We were worried the odd rain showers would dampen the day, but they didn’t at all. The ladies looked fabulous in their incredible dresses, hats and fascinators.”
The theme of the day ‘Ladies in REDcar’ meant many were donning their red accessories and those who were won red goodie bags which included two free race day tickets as well as many other vouchers.
As well as Page2stage entertainment including stilt walkers and Disney characters for the little ladies, the glamorous crowd enjoyed a ‘Dress for Less’ fashion show from Teesside Hospice which showcased fashion items from their shops.
The remainder of the season for 2015 is jam packed with other feature race days such as Help For Heroes Family Fun Day, Caribbean Carnival, and Ladies’ & Gents’ evening. The last feature meeting of the season is the famous Two Year Old Trophy on Saturday 3rd October.
