Robert Johnson, who works at Barnard Castle School, County Durham, published his first book The Genesis Project – The Children of CS-13 in 2011 and is now in the process of writing five sequels to the saga.
Last year the novelist, who writes under the pen name R. S. Johnson, had planned to go on a book signing tour of the North East following a hugely positive reception to his first novel.
However, he was forced to abandon his plans as he was struck by a serious period of depression – a condition he has lived with since his teenage years.
But having spent five months fighting back against the condition, the 27-year-old has now emerged with fresh impetus and plans for a national tour.
The Never Lose Faith Book Signing Tour will run from April until the end of the year and starts at Waterstones in Darlington, before going throughout the North East and beyond to the far reaches of the country.
As well as promoting his book, Robert aims to use the tour to inspire people across the UK to believe in their own abilities, whatever dream they are pursuing.
He recently invited students at Barnard Castle senior school to take part in a short story and a promotional poster competition based on the central themes of his tour – Belief, Defiance, Desire, Hope and Redemption.
Robert will then take the 12 winning entries with him on the tour to help inspire the people he meets as he bids to hold signings in as many book stores as he can in eight months.
He said: “As far as I am aware nothing has been attempted on this scale before, so I want it to be spectacular – if I’m going to do this, I want to do it right. But to achieve such a vision requires me to have sponsorship.
“I am extremely fortunate to have the financial backing of one so far, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank S&L Motor Vehicle Services for their support and belief in the tour, but I need more to run with what I intend.
“It seems appropriate to include Barnard Castle School; they have supported me from the moment my debut novel was released.”
