Don’t try to be the person you think others want to meet. Be genuine and you’ll find it easier to start building authentic relationships
You don’t want to get a reputation as a card-spammer, so wait until you’ve built up some rapport and they ask for your card.
Although a lot great business deals start this way, it’s unlikely that you’re going to pull of the deal of the century just by being at a networking event. Set realistic goals such as to meet five new people or to meet a specific person.
If you are willing to share your contacts and resources, others will be more likely to help you as well.
It’s often a good idea to follow-up after you’ve met new contacts with an email and if necessary, arrange another meeting.
