Charlotte Nichols, from Darlington is launching a series of children’s picture books named after her two border terriers, Harvey and Hugo.
The books, entitled The Naughty ‘Tails’ of Harvey and Hugo cover the two troublesome terriers and their daily misdemeanours.
Miss Nichols is also managing director of PR and marketing business, Harvey & Hugo Ltd which was also named after the canine pair. Speaking of the new venture, she said: “The stories are all based on real life occurrences, but just exaggerated a little, or perhaps a lot!
“There are no real morals to the stories, I just want to make the children laugh. I’m hoping the adults will enjoy them just as much as the children and that dog-owners of every breed will be able to relate to them.
“I started writing the books some time ago, mainly as escapism; after a busy day in the corporate world, it was quite refreshing to come home and write something fun and silly.”
Charlotte has enlisted the illustration services from recent University of Sunderland graduate, Ellie J Mortimer.
Thrilled to be given her first opportunity straight out of University, Ellie said: “My two favourite things growing up were dogs and reading, so I’m over the moon to be a part of this exciting new project. Hopefully I’m doing justice to Harvey and Hugo’s cheeky characters!”
The first of the books, which are aimed at readers aged two to five, will be released towards the end of the year.
Charlotte added: “They’re already picking up a significant social media following, which I think is a great sign. I’m looking forward to an idea I’ve had for so many years finally coming to fruition.”
