Our Leader of The Pack at Harvey & Hugo, Charlotte Nichols, is featured on UMi’s new website as part of its focus on entrepreneurs they’ve helped on the path to business success.
Here’s a snippet from the interview:
“Tell us about your business, what does it do?
We build our clients’ brands by telling their stories. In today’s world of attention overload, it can be hard for your story to be heard above all the noise. We help make sure your story is seen, shared, watched and most importantly felt through creative traditional and digital campaigns. Ultimately, we help our clients’ messages reach the hearts and minds of their target audiences.
What did you do before you started this business?
I was immersed in the family retail company while growing up, so I got an understanding of business early on. I then dabbled in the leisure sector working in a variety of roles from lifeguard, while I was in education, to supervising a small leisure club, before finding my calling in PR. I worked for a lovely agency in Newcastle for a couple of years before setting up Harvey & Hugo.
What inspired you to start up?
I was inspired by my Grandad who originally set-up the family retail business. My parents didn’t want me to start my own business as they knew how stressful it was, but there was no discouraging me. My timing was inspired by the credit crunch as it was the perfect opportunity to launch with my idea of flexible ‘Pay-as-Hugo’ PR services. Social media was also on the cusp of taking off as a PR tool and I wanted to embrace that.”
