North-East web agency supports local start-up with multi-platform app

Teesside based software development company dotUK is blazing the trail for multi-platform apps after winning a significant new contract with a Newton Aycliffe start-up.

The technology firm is creating an app for Baby Biography Ltd which can be used on both iPhone and Android phones.

The visionary dotUK is able to offer this at a significantly reduced cost, having found a solution to notoriously tricky source coding problems.

The app will allow users to collect and record moments through pregnancy, birth and early years. This can be shared on social media and ultimately collated into a keepsake book.

Andy Flisher, founder of dotUK, said: “The app is innovative as it works fully offline and syncs up with the cloud as backup. This means it can be used in any location by parents, grandparents and friends in collaboration.”

He continued: “We are very happy to be supporting a start-up business in the local area.”

The consumer focused contract is a significant win for the established company, it offers a welcome change for the primarily business to business developer and proves its appeal to a diverse range of companies.

Nicola Gildert, owner of Baby Biography Ltd commented: “When I had my own baby I really wanted to record all of the first things he did. I had a baby book to fill in but I had so little time and all I had to hand was my phone.”

She continued: “The app can be used from pregnancy and allows parents to record key milestones and other important information. Within the app the user will have the option to purchase a beautiful keepsake book with all these memories in it.”

dotUK has also become Saleslogix and Act! Business Partners and Developers. This is owned by Swiftpage in Newcastle Upon Tyne and is a step for the company to deal with a bigger, more complex and higher turnover client base.

The web and app development firm is also supporting web developers of the future, having taken on an MSc computing student from Teesside University who is working with them alongside his studies.

dotUK currently employs 18 people and offers web, mobile, app and software development services from its HQ on Yarm High Street.

It was founded in 1999 and its core areas of expertise include multi-platform web and app development and Apple, Linux and Windows software development.
