PR agency vs in-house team?

We’re often asked what the benefits are of working with an agency, as opposed to hiring your own in-house PR team. While there are clear advantages to both, we’re (somewhat obviously) big fans of the way agencies work – and here’s why…

The whole package

The Pack are a dedicated team of PR professionals with a range of complementary skillsets. You’d be hard pushed to find an individual who had in-depth marketing experience, an encyclopedic knowledge of social media, a flair for photography, amazing animation skills and a way with the written word.

Here at Harvey & Hugo, we tick all those boxes.

In-depth knowledge

Let’s face it, PR is a rather niche area, and if you’re not living and breathing it every day, it can be a bit of an uphill battle. As an agency, it’s our business to ensure we’re up-to-date with all the industry news and latest developments.

And with a mix of clients on the books, we also have a more rounded business awareness; we work across a range of industries and can see the way the landscape as a whole is operating.

Staying on track

As much as you try to avoid it, if you’re a small team, it can be a case of all hands on deck should the unexpected happen. Absence in the sales department? New website need creating? There’s always something someone else could be doing.

With an agency, we’re focused on you and your marketing – we’re not going to be distracted by whatever else is going on in your business.

Keep us on our toes

Like it or not, employees can get comfortable, and that leads to complacency. At an agency, we’re only as good as our last project, so it’s vital we get it right first time.

On the flipside of this, we’re also able to be much more objective; being separate from the hierarchy of your business means you can talk to us frankly, with no risk of being discussed round the water cooler the next day.

Safety in numbers

So, you’re just about to launch your career defining product, and your PR person has gone off sick. Or you’re facing a major crisis, and they’re off on their two-week annual break. With no phone signal.

At an agency, there’s always someone to take the reins. Working in teams, as we do in The Pack, means we can work round sickness and holidays, while continuing to give your brand the top class service you’re used to.

Working as a team also helps get our creative juices flowing. You’ll often find The Pack brainstorming, as we’re firm believers that two – or more – heads are better than one.

The bigger picture

With experience across a range of sectors, we know what works – and what doesn’t. We bring our tried-and-tested approach to your brand, backed up by years of experience.

And we’re always looking at the wider strategy; something that can often get lost in the reactive world of in-house PR. It’s vital to keep an eye on where you’re going, not just where you have been, and we always keep your wider communications strategy in mind.

At Harvey & Hugo, we pride ourselves in developing close relationships with our clients, essentially working as an extension of your in-house team.

However, if you do decide to keep it in-house, our sister company Hugoversity can help find your perfect match. We get so many brilliant CVs from PR and marketing professionals, it’s a shame to let them go to waste.

Alternatively, if you already have someone in place, we offer a range of PR and marketing training programmes, or we can help you develop a strategy for them to implement – it’s all about what works best for you.
