Redcar Racecourse celebrates a winning Easter event

Redcar Racecourse kicked off its first feature race meeting of the 2015 season with a cracking Easter Monday extravaganza.

Thousands of North East people came together for the fun-filled event which included 8 races and a Mad Hatter’s Easter Bonnet parade, featuring the man himself, the Easter Bunny and Alice in Wonderland.

The front cover of the official racecard featured the art work of Ellie Smith, aged seven years old and from Consett, who won the ‘egg-cellent’ colouring in competition.

Ellie, who was enjoying her first day at the races, said: “I’ve had an excellent day at Redcar Racecourse. I’m so pleased to have won the colouring in competition, I tried really hard.”

Horse racing over Easter is always a popular event and the racecourse celebrated a bumper bank holiday crowd of over 4,500 people.

Caroline Smith, sales and marketing assistant at Redcar Racecourse said: “Easter Monday was a great success! It was our first meeting following our re-brand, everyone loved the new signage.”

The annual event, sponsored by Pinacle Racing and Market Cross Jewellers, included local acts from performing arts company Page2Stage to deliver another wonderful day.

Caroline added: “Our racedays have always been more than just horseracing, which this event has proved. Local families enjoyed chocolate eggs, fancy dress, stilt walkers and a treasure hunt.”

This is the first of many exciting feature race days for Redcar Racecourse over the 2015 racing season; it is also holding a Caribbean Carnival Day, Ladies & Gents Evening, Help For Heroes Family Day, and the ever popular Ladies’ Day. The last feature meeting of the season is the Totepool Two Year Old Trophy Day on Saturday 3rd October

The next feature race meeting for Redcar Racecourse, which will soon launch its new website, is the Zetland Gold Cup Day on Monday 25th May. For more information visit http://www.redcarracing.co.uk/ or call 01642 484 068.
