Summer holidays time to get active, says Tees Valley transport team

With school holidays just around the corner, many families and carers may be left wondering how to fill six weeks – or more – of summer fun.  The new Big Summer Days Out website has been launched to provide a wealth of ideas for local family days out that don’t cost the earth.

The website focuses on free or low-cost fun in the Tees Valley and surrounding area, with listings for outdoor activities, such as family bikes rides or butterfly counts and discounted entry at top north-east attractions, when you travel by bus or train.

Journey planning information is available for all events and attractions, with bespoke bus and train schedules just a click away.

The website has been created by the Tees Valley’s sustainable transport projects, Local Motion and Connect Tees Valley, who aim to get more people walking, cycling and using public transport.

It’s well known that spending time with family and being in the great outdoors improves both mental and physical health in all ages. With one in three children leaving primary school overweight or obese, there is more reason than ever to get out and explore your local area.

The advice is simple; leave the games consoles and the car behind and start your own adventure in the Tees Valley this summer! Visit www.bigsummer.co.uk for more information.
