Solar panel supplier Synergy Solar, which operates from its Darlington headquarters, has made Tyneside its fifth franchise territory after Durham, Sunderland, Birmingham and Reading – with a further seven new branches expected to follow before the end of the year.
As the company expands, it has also extended its range of services to cover several other areas of renewable energy technologies including solar thermal, biomass, air and ground source heat pumps, wind turbines and rainwater recovery.
Director Mashud Choudhury said: “We wanted to expand the business with like-minded individuals who were also passionate about renewable energy. There are a lot of people looking to enter the renewable market and our comprehensive model enables them to do this.”
Managing director Steve Gaylor added: “The opening of the new franchise is another great step towards our long-term aim of operating in 40 territories throughout the UK and it also provides us with further evidence that our business sector and model is robust.”
Led by franchise owner Lawrence Winship, Synergy Solar’s Newcastle branch will initially employ six people, with more jobs likely to be created as the business is scaled up in the coming months and years.
Mr Winship joins the business after almost 25 years in power generation and electrical construction, supervisory and management roles and a stint working on wind turbine projects.
While Synergy Solar largely supplies and installs technology for domestic projects, the company is currently planning to grow its presence in the commercial sector, having recently completed work for Sunderland Marina.
