The landmark hotel in Bamburgh has been upgraded from an AA two star to a three star, while the hotel’s Bailey’s Bar and Restaurant facility has also been awarded with an AA rosette.
As the Victoria looks to capitalise on its new upgraded status, the hotel has appointed Chris Bowron as its new general manager as part of a pre-summer recruitment drive.
Chris was instrumental in the refurbishment and turnaround of the Best Western Honest Lawyer Hotel in Durham, which he managed to a 60% year-on-year rate of growth last year.
Newcastle-based STR Enterprises, which owns the Victoria Hotel, enlisted Chris with the aim of driving the same standards and ethos that he oversaw in Durham.
The newly-appointed general manager has already added to his team by bringing both sous chef John Paul Cummings and assistant duty manager Olivia Hope from the Honest Lawyer Hotel to Bamburgh.
Chris said: “Starting a new role is always a challenge; however a big thank you has to go to the current management team and all the team members in all departments. They have embraced the changes here at the Victoria and without their hard work, passion, dedication and commitment, the hotel would be not in the position it is.
“In years to come we will continue to deliver an exceptional product and exceed our customers’ expectations on each and every visit.”
Prior to its upgrade, the Victoria had held a two star rating for 10 years and the upgrade follows a number of improvements at the hotel including a full refurbishment of its superior and castle view bedrooms, enhanced guest services, greater focus on delivering award-winning food and the additional offer of free Wi-Fi.
Looking forward, the hotel aims to expand the range of its wedding packages and also hopes to achieve two AA rosettes next year – a rare accolade in the North East region.
