School children from across Roundhay in Leeds are set to take part in the 11th annual Run For Fun on Saturday 25th June.
The Roundhay Primary Schools’ Run for Fun, whose lead sponsor is Leeds-based Preston Baker estate agents, was established by volunteers to help children to participate in sporting activities alongside children from several schools in the local area.
The event will be run by 1,200 primary school children and their family members. Parents from ten primary schools across Roundhay organise the activities.
Chair of the Roundhay Run For Fun organising committee, Veronica Shackleton, believes the event is all about bringing children together to have fun with their friends from other schools and encouraging them to be active.
She said: “The Fun Run is a really enjoyable, friendly day, with a great atmosphere where people can accomplish a personal goal whatever age or just have fun being active together.
“It is important for us as parents to inspire our children to enjoy outdoor activities, and this is the perfect way for children as young as 4 to start to compete in a friendly environment.
“We have had such a great response from schools this year. Excitement about the event is building up already. With support from Preston Baker in providing the event T shirts, promotion, a photo booth and podium for runners at the finish line this year’s event should be one to remember!”
This year the event has its own hashtag, #RoundhayFunRun, and organisers are encouraging participants and supporters to share any images and video from the event on social media with this hashtag.
Speaking about the run, Preston Baker co-founder, James Baker, said: “This is such a fabulous community event. We are proud to be sponsoring it for the third year in a row. It’s great to see families from across the region coming together to keep active and have fun.”
Other sponsors for the event include Blacks Solicitors, Leeds Building Society and Sky.
As part of the event, fruit and water will be provided at the finish line with medals for all juniors who complete the run. There will also be a race clock at the finish line for more serious runners.
It’s not just the parents and children who are looking forward to the event.
Angela Ronicle, Head Teacher at Kerr Mackie Primary School, said: ‘‘Run For Fun is a fantastic event to take part in. Lots of children at Kerr Mackie have attended the event in recent years, either to run with their parents or siblings.
‘‘The children at Kerr Mackie have always enjoyed the event, and many have been amongst the first five to finish the race.
“It’s a great opportunity for all the family to have fun and exercise at the same time. We are all very excited.’’
Media representatives are invited to the event, at Roundhay Park in Leeds, to speak to those involved and capture images.
A press release will be issued, with pictures, after the event, but if you would like to attend, please contact:
