Many of us know the feeling – after rushing to get to work in the morning and a long day at the office, we just want to unwind with Netflix or a drink with friends, despite the fact that we were just sitting at a desk all day. It is easy to let physical activity and healthy habits slide when you work in an office 9-5, but these tips can help you stay fit and keep the extra pounds from creeping on.
Walk whenever possible
Stroll over to a co-worker’s desk to ask a question instead of sending an e-mail, get away from the office for lunch, park your car a bit further than necessary – unless walking or cycling to work is possible, even better – and of course, take the stairs!
Use water bottles, reams of paper or whatever you can get your hands on for a little in-office toning-up.
It is easy to get caught up in work, so simply set an alarm on your phone for every hour or two to remind you to get up and stretch or move around for a few minutes.
Drink more water
Not only does staying hydrated keep the body and the mind functioning, but thirst can often be mistaken for hunger, so drink up to help avoid excess snacking at your desk.
Chances are you are not the only one of your colleagues concerned with staying fit, so speak up and buddy up! Plan lunchtime walks or after-work activities, make a healthy lunch and snacking pact – whatever works for you.
