Mr Russell joins the business and tax advisory practice after a ten-year spell in corporate finance – most recently serving as associate director of Tait Walker in the Tees Valley.
A major part of his new role will be to help grow Evolution’s client base through quality support and advice for business owners at a time when entrepreneurial activity is picking up as the economy recovers.
His appointment comes shortly after seasoned tax planning expert Tim Mallon joined the practice as tax director to further bolster its offering to businesses in the region.
Mr Russell began working in corporate finance in 2003 with KPMG, where he worked on large due diligence assignments across the UK and Europe.
He has acted for clients across a range of transaction types including acquisitions, sales, fundraising, valuations, management buyouts, grant advice, due diligence and AIM flotations.
He said: “I am excited to be joining a growing firm with an excellent reputation and am looking forward to getting to know the wider team and working with it in the coming years.
“I have a strong affinity with Teesside and being part of a successful, locally based firm like Evolution appeals strongly to me.”
Evolution’s managing partner Martin Barber added: “Mike will significantly enhance our corporate finance offering and his remit is to build the best corporate finance team in the region. We believe the economy is on the upturn and we want to be in prime position to help entrepreneurial business thrive and succeed.”
For the second year in succession, Evolution was this year named Independent Firm of the Year at the prestigious North East Accountancy Awards.
The practice acts for a wide range of clients, from sole traders to multinationals, and provides a broad spectrum of services including personal tax returns and tax planning for high net-worth individuals.
