Twitter now supports GIFs! Let’s celebrate.

Did you know you can now post GIFs on Twitter?

For those of you who don’t know what a GIF is, have you been living under a rock these past few years?! Don’t fret; we’ll give you a quick and easy guide in posting your first GIF in this very blog post.

So, let’s get started. What exactly is a GIF? It stands for Graphics Interchange Format for you techies, but for the rest of us it basically means an animated image on a continuous loop.

See below an example:

Winnie the Pooh

The benefits of GIFs

GIFs have exploded onto the social media scene and blogging sites such as Tumblr and Buzzfeed in recent years.

With more platforms supporting GIFs you can’t get very far without seeing a moving image within the latest article or blog post.

It’s a great way to make things more creative when writing content and now Twitter has the tools to support them, this means more fun tweets!

Twitter GIFs

You will now be seeing more and more GIFs on your Twitter timelines. Like any other video content it will come with a play button, along with the written tweet like the one below.

How do you post these yourself, you ask?

Like any other still image. If you’re on a desktop you can simply right click and save it, or save it through your phone into your photo gallery. We’d recommend creating a GIF folder separate to your other photographs and images, as GIFs are sometimes hard to differentiate between other images.

You then create a tweet like any other, click “upload” or the camera button, and add the GIF within the tweet. You should instantly see it moving before you post.

After you have posted it, ta-da! There goes your super cool tweet for the entire world to see!

Now all that’s left to do is celebrate, and what better way than with a GIF?

At Harvey & Hugo we keep our clients’ social media accounts fresh and current, so we believe it’s vital that the tweets are creative as possible, and GIFs are a great way to do this!
