Using social media to support your event

Events are a great way to celebrate achievement, showcase skills and spread knowledge.

However, you may be wondering how to generate interest and get people involved?

Luckily it’s simple, social media of course!

As a PR and social media agency, we love nothing more than promoting and attending events, so we’ve compiled four simple, yet effective, tips on how to make the most out of your event promotion using social media.

Create a hashtag

Hashtags are vital for events to enable you to create a narrative for your sponsors, supporters and guests.

What is vitally important, is your hastag is promoted on all offline literature and information, otherwise how will those people not yet following you know what it is?

Just make sure you proofread your hashtag – no-one needs another #susanalbumparty fiasco.

Involvement

Everyone has a smartphone and, whether we like it or not, everyone is glued to it – even at an event.

So use that to get your guests involved.

By promoting use of your hashtag and handle throughout an event, you organically create a timeline.

These posts can then be used for engagement, content, reviews and imagery, post-event and in future years.

You have a captive audience sat in the room, find out who they are and get them involved from their seats!

Interaction

Everyone wants to feel they are a part of something, so make sure wherever possible, you interact with your followers.

Tag your sponsors in posts, respond to questions or comments and congratulate your winners personally. That interaction will make for happy, and therefore repeat, guests.

Advertising

If you’re struggling to build your followers, advertising is a great way to get in front of your target market.

By using a carefully prepared post (which must include images or video) and selecting your chosen market, you will start to see an increase in reach, page likes and engagement.

Although it’s important to adhere to these four very simple tips, having a wider PR and social media strategy is vital to build awareness and ensure your event is a success.
